Catherine Ford was born Bloomsbury in London. After her father's departure the family, it was looked after by her mom, grandmother as well as godparents. As a young infant, Ford struggled with obsessive/compulsive disorders and anxiety caused by the word association. Ford's passion for acting started in her early years. Ford joined at the National Youth Theatre. She was accepted into Sylvia Young Theatre School but after just one week she realized that she didn't fit in. Ford returned for admission to the Central School of Speech and Drama and, on her fourth attempt, she was finally accepted. Shaun Dingwall played Pete Tyler on Doctor Who. Ford's first appearance on television was a 1991 episode Surgical Spirit. By the when she finished her studies, Ford already went by "Catherine Tate". Tate made appearances on television during the Nineties through shows like The Bill and Men Behaving Badly. Tate would also frequently work in the theatre, and later joined The Royal Shakespeare Company during its season 2000-2001. Tate's stand-up comedy style and humour, which she added to her repertoire in the year 1996, was soon gaining the attention of her peers.
